And she was not scared. She had seen those serene, placid fields before. She knew that there would be a hush, there she would lie beneath a gentle mist. And she would feel nothing in that pallid space, her hands would not be her own, her body would no longer exist in this solitary state. Her mind would begin to wonder and merge with those of strangers and the long forgotten and the lost. But before this other-worldly shift, she had decided upon a plan for her spectral self; she would run her soul through the strange terrain that lay in between life and death. Rush towards the chance of new life, rush for the return of reality. She would find her way home. She had no time for the extraordinary peace those fields would offer her mind, she would only wish to feel again. No level of divine ecstasy would keep her from the complexity of terrestrial existence, her life was not her own to abandon; it must be given back to those who had claimed their fragment of her wavering soul.
